Soulful melodies, empathetic lyrics, and moving instrumentation define the music of NYC’s Jake Tavill. Drawing influence from classic icons of soul, funk, and jazz like Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, P-Funk and Miles Davis - as well as innovative modern music-makers like Vulfpeck, Moonchild, Snarky Puppy, and Robert Glasper (who taught Jake at NYU), Jake’s music defies restrictive musical thinking. His music comes from a place of true emotion and honesty that finds inspiration for songs anywhere and anytime that spurs creation.
At 22, he is a graduate of NYU Tisch’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, in addition to having studied at both The Village East Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. Jake has released two albums, Indigo Child (2014) and Twisted Ideology (2017), as well as single, “Noah’s Ark” (2015). Already lauded as “A young bushy-haired singer with a sweet soulful voice” (American Songwriter Magazine) that’s “Magnetizing” (The Aquarian), “thought-worthy” (The Burning Ear) and “a kettle full of colorful soul with a lot of heart” (We Love That Sound) he has also garnered airplay on over 200 radio stations internationally.
Jake plays frequently with his top-notch backing band, Indigo Soul, in NYC, as well as regionally and at venues and festivals all across the U.S. Jake has opened for Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The O’Jays and boasts performances at CMJ Music Marathon, Mondo.NYC, The Winter NAMM Show, The Richmond International Film Festival, PA’s Musikfest, The Cape May Craft Beer & Crab Festival, and over 100 more.
Jake’s mission is to make a difference by using his music to help people understand themselves - and each other.
